Day 30: Self-portrait
Self-portrait n. A pictorial or literary portrait of oneself, created by oneself.
Today is the last day of the 30 Day Photography Challenge. It's been a great exercise taking at least one photograph a day. I've also had fun playing with Photoshop and Lightroom, enhancing and manipulating images. It's been a great 30-day journey. Every day has not been a prized photograph, but I got to use my creative spirit, and that's what counts. The group that I joined on Facebook, Daily Photo Challenges, is starting up a new list of 30 challenges. ...
Day 29: Black and white
Black and white adj. (of a photograph, movie, television program, or illustration) In black, white, shades of gray, and no other color.
I call this one Empty-handed. End of story.
Day 28: Flowers
Flowers 3rd person singular present, plural of flow·er /ˈflouər/ n. The reproductive structure of some seed-bearing plants, characteristically having either specialized male or female organs or both male and female organs, such as stamens and a pistil, enclosed in an outer envelope of petals and sepals.
I don't know anything about flowers. I know so little that I had to take some time to look up what kind of flower I photographed today. Yes. That is sad. But I did find the name. It's an orchid. You already knew that though. Apparently,...
Day 27: From a distance
Distance /ˈdistəns/ n. An amount of space between two things or people.
Today is January the 7th. The day Kamron and I got married. We were married at my parents' house. As I am writing this, it's nearing the time our ceremony began. I remember bringing Kamron some spring rolls to my brother's room where he was preparing for the wedding. I didn't see him, but just slipped the food through the crack as he opened the door.
Today, we are staying at my parents' house, visiting Houston. It's Saturday again. It was the perfect...
Day 26: Close-up
Close-up \ˈklōs-ˌəp\ n. 1. A photograph or movie shot taken at close range. 2. An intimate view or examination of something.
I'm back in my favorite city, Houston, Texas! I had the opportunity to hang out with one of my closest friends whom I've known since childhood, Joanna. She was kind enough to pick me up in her brand new 2012 Honda Accord from my parents house in Meyerland and take me to the Village to my favorite cupcake place, Celebrity Cupcakes! Joanna bought me a beautifully made red velvet cupcake and a cup of whole milk. ...
Day 25: Something pink
Pink /piNGk/ adj. Of a color intermediate between red and white, as of coral or salmon.
I wanted my pink peonies in this photograph, but I didn't just want the peonies in them. I had baked some lemon ricotta cookies with a lemon glaze and I thought it would be funny to take a photograph of me as a homemaker. So I paired a pink shirt with a khaki colored skirt and some pink Converse and set my tripod up. Is this Desperate Housewives enough? So, this one is called Homemaker.
Day 24: Animal
Animal /ˈanəməl/ n. A multicellular organism of the kingdom Animalia, differing from plants in certain typical characteristics such as capacity for locomotion, nonphotosynthetic metabolism, pronounced response to stimuli, restricted growth, and fixed bodily structure.
Well, this one had, at one point, the capacity for locomotion. I did try my best to get a living organism, but the cows were not out today on the pasture near my house. I also would have preferred getting a photograph of the meat section at H-E-B, but as I roamed through the crowds,...
Day 23: Sunflare
Sunflare, or Sunburst /ˈsənˌbərst/ n. A sudden burst of sunlight, as through broken clouds. A pattern or design consisting of a central disk with radiating spires.
Being the lazy person that I am, I didn't go too far to take my sun flare photograph. Sure, I could have strolled around our ugly San Marcos downtown and taken a photograph there, but I didn't want to take my chances of going out and coming up with nothing. Thus the photograph of my front porch. End of story.
Day 22: Hands
Hands 3rd person singular present, plural of hand /hand/ n. The end part of a person's arm beyond the wrist, including the palm, fingers, and thumb.
Like a proper frugal person, I decided to reuse the green apple before I take a juicy bite out of it. So this one is called Eden. I would have preferred to have hands that have more character, but since I was shy to ask my elderly neighbor if I could photograph her hands, I just went ahead and used my own. I have been getting good use out of my Gitzo tripod since starting this 30 Day Photography...
Day 21: Faceless self-portrait
Faceless /ˈfāslis/ adj. (of a person) Remote and impersonal; anonymous.
I call this "The Daughter of Man." If you don't recognize the premise of this photograph, it's okay. I posted the painting that I based this photograph on. Sure, it's not the same or that similar, but I don't think René Magritte would have minded. Art is open to interpretation, so this is how I interpreted his piece of fine art. I do love his artwork and when I saw the word "faceless," I immediately thought of Magritte's painting, The Son of Man,...
